SAFEGUARDING AND FIRST AID

Safeguarding

Safeguarding means helping to keep everyone at the club safe and welcome, from young players to adult bowlers. It involves preventing and responding to harm or abuse, supporting coaches and volunteers to recognise concerns, ensuring Westerham Bowls Club’s reporting routes are clear, and promoting respect and fairness across the bowling community.

Safeguarding is concerned with protecting people from harm, rather than addressing wider issues such as club culture or personality clashes. These matters are usually best managed through a member-agreed club code of conduct. If this does not
resolve the issue, Bowls England Regulation 9 should be followed:

Bowls England Regulation: No 9 Approved: SEPTEMBER 2019 DISCIPLINARY RULES INRELATION TO MISCONDUCT AT CLUB LEVEL AND AT LICENSED  TOURNAMENTS – MISCONDUCT: REGULATION_9_SEPTEMBER_2019_CLEAN.pdf

Westerham Bowls Club Safeguarding Officer is an Officer of the Club’s committee and details can be found on the CLUB’S COMMITTEE SECTION on this website.

First Aid

The club’s Accident Book and First Aid Kit are kept in the kitchen, in the first drawer on the left as you enter.

When recording an accident, please note:

  • The date, time and location of the accident
  • The name and contact details of anyone involved
  • A brief summary of what happened
  • Details of any witnesses
  • Information about any apparent injury
  • What first aid was given and by whom
  • Whether the person went to hospital, saw their doctor, or went home
  • Any other relevant details, such as action taken about the hazard or who the incident was reported to

In addition to the first aid kit and accident book, the club has an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) for use in the event of cardiac arrest. It is located in the kitchen area by the entrance door.
